I have an iQue 3600, which I'm trying to set up with detailed maps from Mapsource City Select North America v6. My first headache was with the unlock wizard, which gave me a registry error message every time I entered the Unlock Code. I finally got that sorted out, but now I'm stuck on the mapinstall tool. After having run the unlock wizard, mapinstall still tells me that I need an unlock code. In the white box, it lists 'City Select North America v6,' as locked, and has a button which says 'unlock regions.' When highlight City Select and I click on this button, I get a dialog box which says 'unlock regions', but it only lists 'unknown.' When I click this, and input my unlock code, it makes no difference to what happens next. It also has 'backup' and 'restore' buttons, When I click either of thejm, and select the file 'city select north American v6.unl', I get a dialog with my unlock code, saying it 'already exists.' When I enter the code again by hand, City Select still shows up as locked. The next screen tells me to 'move the mouse cursor mouse over the map, and click in yellow outlines to select map sections for installation.' There are no yellow outlines on the map, and nothing I do with my mouse causes yellow outlines to appear. No matter what I do with my mouse on this screen, when I click 'next' I get a dialog that says 'please select one or more maps for installation.' Since there is only one map to select, and I've done everything I can think of to select it, this has me baffled. I want to install the whole map on my device. I have a card which should be more than adequate to do this. Am I using the wrong tool, or can this actually be done with mapinstall? If there's a help file, I haven't found it. I know I'm using the right code, because I have the original paperwork for this unit and have double, triple, and quadruple checked it. What am I doing wrong? My guess is that your problem is mostly related to ROS (Really Old Software). Forget about using Map Install from the Palm Desktop. It will just cause you to lose your hair if you are trying to use it in Vista or Win7. Results will be unpredictable. ![]() If you have successfully unlocked it in Mapsource, just use Mapsource to load the maps onto the iQue. The procedure is the same. Once I discovered I could use Mapsource I never used Map Install again. If you have a card reader in your PC, don't load the maps through the iQue (e.g. With the card in the iQue). Put the card in the card reader of the PC and when you have selected all the maps you want to install, select the card in the card reader instead of the iQue. The card will show up in the Transfer To Device list as a hard drive letter. Transferring directly to the card is enormously quicker. While you're at it, upgrade your Mapsource program to a newer version. The version that installed when you installed City Select v6 is probably older than you are. Unless you're as old as I am.ken. That sounds like a good idea. Can you maybe give me some more specific instructions as to how I can install maps using MapSource? I'm actually running XP, which I thought was what this software was written for. I've also installed all the updates I could find since writing the post above, including the newest version of mapinstall. This version of Mapinstall sent me to an unlock site on Garmin's server as the only unlock option. This site didn't recognize my iQue in the sync cradle (which I had just synced, so I know it was properly connected), but it did recognize the sd card in the reader. I don't have Garmin product codes for the SD card, just for the IQue, so that was no help. I'm looking at the 'Garmin' folder on my 'c' drive. I see a folder called 'CSNA6,' which is full of data files. Since I didn't get any error messages when I completed the unlock wizard, I'd almost assume I must have been successful in that stage. But so far, my experience with this software is that if you do everything you're told to do, what you're told will happen still doesn't. Spawn the movie. Is the fact that the 'CSNA6' data folder exists proof enough that I've unlocked the maps? Or would there be some other sign? I'd almost assume I must have been successful in that stage. CSNA6 is an old (May 2004) obsolete map product as is the Unlock Wizard software (last updated 3/2007). Also Garmin no longer uses the Windows Registry to store unlock codes although newer software supports any that already exist.
